Massage Laws – License Requirements

In the state of Washington, massage therapists must be licensed. There are just a few different requirements to meet:

We must have completed “a course of study in an approved massage program or approved apprenticeship program” successfully, fully completed “a course of study in an approved massage program or approved apprenticeship program”, and be at least 18 years of age (1).

You can be denied for various reasons, including having had another license restricted or revoked, and being found to have committed an act of unprofessional conduct, etc (2). Feel free to read ahead here for the list.

Reflexologists were affected by a change this year. Their new requirements are almost exactly the same as those set up for massage therapists (1).

My Implementation

It seems kind of silly to explain how I followed this law. Yes, I went to massage school (graduated with honors, because yeah). I passed my test on the first try, and I was certainly old enough. So yay for being legal!

Please note: no page devoted or related to massage laws on this website should be taken as legal advice. As I said legalities can be unclear or difficult to understand. These are merely my interpretations. Thanks!
