Aetna, in my experience, is fairly low key. However, each plan is different and I always call to check for plan specifics.


  • Referral for massage – I require it. Some plans don’t require a massage prescription. However, since I’m not allowed to diagnose and I must use a diagnosis code to bill for you, I need a referral to obtain proper billing codesĀ and create a thorough paper trailĀ .
  • Massage must be medically necessary! (Most insurance plans won’t cover preventative massage.)
